How To Stop The Avalanche Of Negative Thoughts Towards Your Health Goal

You are off to a great start to your health goal. You are checking all the daily goals and it feels wonderful. Then, it all seems to be crashing in from all directions.

Doubt, worry, and fear have come into your playground and started bullying you. Not this time! This is your backyard and you own this playground.

On a pure volume standpoint, we have over 35 -48 thoughts per minute. These thoughts, obviously, can be positive, negative or neutral. Yet, the important factor is how we manage our negative emotions.  Our ability to silence, remove, or modify these emotions is a determinate of our success towards our goals. Utilize these tips to squash that little devil on your shoulder. And step by step, you will continue to push towards your better health.

  • Live it before it happens. The first thing in the morning you need to think about what you plan to achieve like it has already happened. For example, see you crossing that finish line or seeing your improved cholesterol results at the next doctor visit. This gives you more faith in yourself and abilities. Additionally, if you are a believer in manifestation, you will attract those things to you.
  • Challenge it. When that negative thought come jaunting in, see it as a challenge. Gracefully, accept the challenge then set out to conquer it. “You were not made to do pushups.” Make a plan to do a pushup every other night. Take control and show you what you really are capable of accomplishing. To do this, make an estimate of your ability then raise the bar each day until you find your true potential.
  • Are you talking to yourself, again? Absolutely, you should always promote your abilities with your own pep talk. Self talk aids in concentration. Furthermore, it directs or redirects focus to the important piece of that skill. Lastly, it boosts confidence, positive mood states, and performance. “You can do it!!!”
  • Just be you. Do not compare yourself with others. No matter their outward appearance, they could be hiding doubt and fear inside. Besides, you make you great!!!
  • Write down all of your healthy things in your life. When the negative flood gates open, it helps to visual see all the great things we are accomplishing. Even if it is small, write it on your list. For instance, you have started and continued to drink one more glass of water per day. That is positive progress. Thus, it is important to see that written.
  • Flip the script. Your mind is a “no negative thoughts zone.” When a negative thought weasels its way in your mind, change your thinking to a more positive topic. If negative thinking has a hold on your mind, a more positive idea generation must be feed to your mind repetitively to reeducate it.  Honestly, this is not easy and it may take lots of practice and guidance.
  • Seek guidance or consultation. What is better than a good vent session? In the end, sometimes we internalize struggles too often instead of letting that pressure out and off your chest.  Find that person who can be your go to when you need to empty the burdens of life.
  • Just laugh. Laughing is the best medicine. Think back to something that caused you to laugh uncontrollably. Ideally, this moment should have been indelibly imprinted in your mind that when you think about it, it is like you are there in the moment.

In life, we will always face obstacles, difficulties, and stressors that drain us emotionally, thereby allowing for free flowing negative thoughts. Yet, these life challenges themselves are not important, but how we view or our attitude towards them that determine the impact, positive or negative, on our life and health. Rise and shine, my fitness friends!
