The 3 Things You Need To Get Right Before You Start Your Health Goals

Emotions create thoughts

Have you ever met someone that caused you to want to be the best version of yourself? You started changing things you never thought you would change. Yet, you did because you were driven by emotions. Yes! Emotional drivers can be used to our benefit.

Let’s look at how this typically plays out. First, our emotional response dictates a thought. For example, you may find that this individual is into healthy behaviors. You, being so taken by this person, think what can be done to improve my healthy behaviors. Next, your emotions can trigger action. Thus, we start planning how to add these new behaviors. Lastly, we want to ensure we are doing the right things so we may ask for outside assistance.

Ultimately, this strong emotion is what we need to tap into to achieve our health goals. These emotions lead to 2 impactful items: thought and action. Let’s dive into each concept and then discuss how the acquisition of further knowledge may come into play.

1. Mindset

Emotions drive our thoughts. And, we have a cascade of thoughts every minute. We also know our thoughts are where greatness occurs. Think about all the items you use in a day. Yes, all those items came from a single thought. How does this play a role in our health? That is simple. Do you believe you can achieve what you a seeking to accomplish? Why or why not? In the end, those that believe have a higher rate of success. Therefore, it is imperative that you find the drive behind your health goal. That is called your “why.” Have you discovered your “why?” If not, start unveiling it. To uncover this, ask yourself, “why is this important to me?” and “how will it improve my future?” Be candid with yourself and do not devalue the importance of your “why.”

2. Plan

Okay, thoughts and beliefs are not the only key ingredients. We need a guide and road map to better health. Complexity does not rule the day nor does it have to be perfect. Merely, keep it simple at first. This is easily done by having an idea written down. So, if you have not, go grab a piece of paper and jot down your goal. Then, add one action step that will help towards it. As you start to accomplish these steps, you can add another, then another. Soon enough, you will be making great strides towards your health goals. A good idea is to have these action steps in plain sight. For example, it could be your computers screen saver, on your bathroom mirror, or on your refrigerator.

3. Support

You do not have to journey alone. Ultimately, there is a reason teams can accomplish more than one individual. Besides, we all specialize or have specific buckets of knowledge and skill. When the road becomes difficult, reach out for a helping hand. You can do this by building your social safety net. Basically, this is similar to a trapeze artist. This net is there for improved courage, missteps, and falls. Additionally, adding a health coach to that social network can provide you the knowledge, motivation, and accountability you may need to get beyond that dreaded “plateau.”

In the end, it is about utilizing your emotions as drivers to betterment. Again, think about the person you would go to the end of the earth for. That is the drive you need to accomplish your health goal. Use that power to build inspiration and a plan. And, you will wake up every day to be your best. Rise and shine, my fitness friends!
